Impact of use of Technology in Mathematics Lessons on student Achievement and Attitudes
The article chosen to summarize
by the learner was entitled, “Impact of
use of Technology in Mathematics Lessons on Student Achievement and Attitudes (2014)”. This article spoke about the effects
technology had on students in the classroom. The authors of the article used
what they called a quasiexperimental research design where the students would
be broken up into 3 groups. These three groups would take a pretest and a post
mathematics test using technology. According to the findings of the article
students had a positive attitude towards technology. This in return lead to teachers
discussing the use of technology in the school setting.
For the learner being an educator
sometimes requires you to think outside the box. Currently the learner works at
an early childhood center. Teachers are able to use the web to browse all kinds
of educational sites that allow them the use of technology to teach their
students. Each class is equipped with a smartboard, a laptop, and a class set
of IPads. This allows students to use different forms of technology to learn.
Teachers are now able to place students into small groups and allow them to
navigate and learn using the technologies on their own. Technology in the class
in the learners’ opinion is great, it gives the teachers the opportunity to use
different sites and videos to teach their students. It also gives the students
the chance to learn but also teach other students what they know about the use
of technology.
